May 14, 2014 Year 3 Day 14
It's always a good day when you can make someone smile. Today, I picked up the FREE PRETZEL and knew that some hardworking 4th grade teachers deserved a treat today. Mary D'Alessandro and Joyce Motson are the resident 4th grade teachers at Sharp Elementary School and actually the first two teachers I was introduced to when I first moved to Sharp 3 years ago. At that time, I was supposed to be on the 4th grade team working with them. That summer a 5th grade teacher moved out and I slid right in. Next year though, a smaller group coming into 5th grade means I will be moving back down with them...for the first time...again. Make sense?
Anyway, I got there early this morning and so as to no disrupt their preparations for NJASK testing wanted to present them with their FREE PRETZEL. I explained what I was doing and both ladies said "Who would ever turn down a pretzel?" They thanked me for thinking of them and I was extremely happy to make their morning. I hope the testing is going well.
These ladies and their students have to go all the way til Friday and the ever scary Science portion!
I had Mary's son Jake in my first class at Sharp two years ago. He is a great kid and it was a pleasure having him in class. His mom is tough though. I don't know how she does it, but she always looks so calm. I need to have her show me her secret.
Joyce may have one of the best Boston accents ever (hence the title of today's blog). I think she even teaches it to her classes as an elective. I kid her a lot, but that's only because I know she can take it. In a funny story kind of way, the house that we now live in, is exactly across the street from the house that Joyce used to live in about 25 years ago. Crazy small world huh?
I am looking forward to learning all of their 4th grade wisdom for next year. There is no way that I am going to be the organized one in this crew, to answer the questions that Joyce posed to me this morning, but maybe if I try real hard I might come in second!
Shout outs:
To the team I coach, the Paul VI golf team: Olympic Conference National Division Champs.
It was 9 years in the making, but we got our first title yesterday after an amazing effort. The team shot 155 and defeated Bishop Eusatce (185) and Camden Catholic (179) to improve their record to 12-3 and 11-0 in the division. It was awesome to see them play so well and to see all their hardwork pay off in a big way. Extremely proud of all the players.
Lynette Diluzio: Keep the Facebook mom and dad stories coming. I cannot get enough of them.
Birthdays today: Former Delran High schoolers Jen Jack and Todd Leatherman. Happy birthday!
Tomorrow promises to be a little less stressful as the weight of competing for a division title is now lifted. Bright days ahead I hope.
Until tomorrow...
